Developer

Flavonomics is a flavor reasoning engine that agents can call. It is a culinary intelligence layer used to build applications with a deep knowledge of how things taste to humans. Use the API surface for direct integrations, or connect the remote MCP server when your client needs Flavonomics as a live tool surface.

Agentic systems become much more valuable when they can call a domain-specific, structured, trusted knowledge source instead of relying on the standard outputs of large language models. Flavonomics provides the most comprehensive and accurate data on flavour profiles and flavour relationships, making it a crucial tool for agentic systems that need to think about food and drink.

Semantic Pairing Graph

Pairings rank flavour harmony from learned flavour profiles, blended with how often ingredients share real recipes.

Explainability Included

Facet-level rationale with include_facets=true — shared and complementary notes.

Built for Product Workflows

Search, resolve, pair, and validate with stable v1 endpoints and predictable response envelopes.

Both surfaces use the same flavour intelligence, but they are optimized for different integration styles. Choose the API when your application wants direct HTTP responses. Choose MCP when an agent client should discover and call Flavonomics tools during a conversation or workflow.

Stable request/response endpoints

HTTP API

Use the v1 API when you want explicit endpoint control, predictable envelopes, and direct application integration.

Auth: x-api-key

Tooling for agent clients

Remote MCP

Connect ChatGPT or another OAuth-capable client to the MCP server with any paid Flavonomics membership.

Auth: OAuth · Streamable HTTP /mcp

Two key types, two surfaces

Key Management

MCP keys are available with any paid membership for clients that use keys. HTTP API keys require Enterprise.

Auth: /developer + /account

Base URLs: https://www.flavonomics.com/api/v1/... or https://api.flavonomics.com/v1/.... Authenticate every request with an x-api-key header. HTTP API keys are available on the Enterprise plan. Responses use a consistent envelope with top-level data and meta fields.

Rate limits apply per account, shared by all of its keys: 120 requests per minute and 20,000 per day. Similarity lookups for unrecognised ingredient names are limited to 30 per hour. Over a limit, the API returns 429 with a Retry-After header giving the seconds to wait.

GET /api/v1/ingredients/search

Partial and fuzzy ingredient lookup with canonical matches and pagination.

GET /api/v1/ingredients/{ingredient}/similar

Semantic nearest-neighbour recommendations for a resolved ingredient.

GET /api/v1/ingredients/{ingredient}/pairings

Ranked pairings (flavour harmony blended with recipe co-occurrence) with optional facet-level explainability.

GET /api/v1/ingredients/{ingredient}/profile

Raw flavour profile access with top facets and optional full vector output.

GET /api/v1/pair

Compatibility checks for two or more ingredients in one call.

GET /api/v1/facets/{facet}/associations

Facet-to-facet association evidence for explainable flavour reasoning.

GET /api/v1/barlab/country-cocktails

Country-aware Bar Lab cocktail-menu intelligence, optionally filtered by ingredient.

GET /api/v1/barlab/ingredient-trio

Bar Lab synergy, shared flavour-note triads and example cocktails for exactly three ingredients.

Remote MCP access is included with any paid Flavonomics membership. Connect ChatGPT to https://www.flavonomics.com/mcp using Streamable HTTP, then sign in through OAuth with the email address of your paid Flavonomics account. ChatGPT does not need an MCP key.
